William started asking questions about everything Sunday. All day long.. questioning.. What's tasty mean? What's delicious mean? What foods are very good? Why are we doing this? Where are we going? It's hilarious I love it. He has gotten the curiosity bug and I never want him to lose it. ALl this was on the way to our newly found pumpkin patch ( which by google maps was only supposed to be 1 1/2 hrs not 2hrs and 15 minutes.. )
The day started off by us being completely unorganized and late... that and the fact we didn't plan on going but today was the only day this week the weather was going to cooperate so I decided to jump on it. So I called Laura up.. who introduced me to this place.. and we decided to join forces and tackle this pumpkin getting together.
I will have to say that during it .. it was one of the most frustrating ordeals for a orange squash I have lived through yet. Between the loud cannon fire, smelly animals, rude people, gun play, the pumpkins that I now know are a lead/iron variety that I had to kick ( breaking my toe nail in the process.. sandals =bad choice) 50 yards back to the hay ride.. to get dirt thrown up in your face.. with hay everywhere.. the kids aren't as excited as you thought they would be. The water fountain to wash your hands off in was more of a thrill than the pumpkins.. WHY is everyone crying? Again.. why did I drive 2 hours for this? Did they really just throw down a $2 bottle of water? Did that lady really look down and pity me when she handed me another for free?
All in all.. I would say it was a good time.. besides all that.. because traveling with kids is one thing that you must expect everything to go wrong. Nothing is picture perfect.. even with all that going on we got awesome pictures of everyone's kids so I am happy.
They had little pedal tractors on which the kids were thrilled to pedal around merrily ( this was the first thing we did besides take the obligatory pose for me on the setup hay display at the front of the farm) Then we went and looked at all the craft vendors ( which I cannot express how awesome this one guy was who did our wooden signs... gave me and awesome deal and gave all the kids name boards to put up in their room for free. ) Henry ( Laura's son who is the same age as William) got upset at his name because he isn't Henry.. He's Spiderman. So what did the guy do? Did he get upset? NO! He gave him another board... Red. With Spiderman and a web on it. How cool is that?
Then we trundled down towards the petting zoo where all the kids got to look at other kids(goats) and pigs, and sheep, and so on. Then the gunfire broke out as a fake bank robbery was taking place outside. Of course I thought Amelia would be scared by the loud shots. Oh no! Much to my surprise she was thrilled to see things blow up and people dying. Same with William who told me that he was right and there are still Cowboys.. and I should tell his Daddy that we saw them and they are real. After the Sheriff and his posse got done killing everyone we were off to play in the cotton ( both in the field and picked in a giant container truck for the kids to hop around in)I was showing William that cotton was what our clothes were made out off so he picked a bunch of it. Mealie tried running off towards the fountain to wash her hands and I went chasing after her to bump into some rude lady who was like " watch it!" I guess they just don't care if a mother is trying to catch her child.
AT any rate after all that we shoved the kids in the container truck full of cotton. They enjoyed that till the fighting between our boys ensued.. while I took a bathroom break. Then off to the round hay bales stacked up to go climbing on them till we decided enough was enough and to head to the line to get on the hayride. The hay ride was fun, it was nice to have all the kids sitting down and not running around trying to get lost. Oh,but peace just never lasts.. and neither did the hayride. We were lt out into a field where all the good pumpkins were a good 100yds back from where they let you out. And of course I came on NO STROLLER day . SO immediately we head for the back. Mealie just wants to stand in place and cry. Almost the whole time we are out there she is either not coming or running crying in the opposite direction.
After much fun and excitement we find our pumpkins and decided it was time to leave. SO I had a 100yds to carry both Mealie and the 30lb pumpkin of doom I decided I HAD to have... and along the way saw and even bigger one.. which I kicked the rest of the way.. by time the next hay ride got there I though my arms were going to fall off. But I finally got in the hay ride and FINALLY got someone to take my pumpkins for me ( they carry them to a place where you can pull your car up and they load them in. )
On the way back we stopped at one of the vendors we saw earlier and got some little wooden signs made and he was so awesome about it and the signs are absolutely fantastic. And we got food there super cheap since everyone was packing up to leave. All in all I had a great time and it was so nice to hang out with Laura, as I don't get to see her very often at all.
We came back home and started on season 3 since we have been watching them straight through. I can't wait to work my way up to this season. I still haven't watched a full episode in this season yet.
Besides all that I have been trying to absorb all of my father in law's stuff from his house. It's a wreck and it's quite honestly making me horribly depressed. Between the cats, the vermin they carry, the vermin they won't kill even though they are CATS, and all this STUFF in my house I am about to absolutely lose it. I am having to do everything myself. I am just tired of living my life as a single parent taking care of an aging parent... I wish I could get away for a while and just not worry or feel guilty that I am getting away.
I don't want to bummer a good post about my kids up but I really do need to vent.... AT any rate. I got the kids costumes made and I am feeling pretty proud of that.

AH.. I am just going to go gather the kids....and try to get them to sleep.
Namaste,
Elizabeth
